Every day our choices puts us through one of two experiences – Pain or Pleasure, our choices determine in the long run if we would have a happy life. There are two types of pain, the pain of failure or the pain of discipline for success. If you bear the yoke of discipline you will not experience the pain of failure. And just like day and night there is a season to bear your pain, if you will experience the pleasures of life permanently, you must be willing to bear your pain in your youth. While you still have the physical strength for it.
Time is delicate and time lost can never be regained. What you do with your time is critical to your success in life. More importantly the sequence of the activities in your life is critical to success. For example there is a time to learn in life. You must learn to earn, the experience of learning is priceless, the man who wants to earn before learning will soon be faced with an obstacle only what he has learnt over time can solve and even worse he might no longer have the time to learn anymore.
What you want now and what you want most.
Your body constantly craves pleasure, I am sure if you had your way you will never work a day in your life. You simply want enjoyment, the problem however is at work in the earth is the law of sowing and reaping. You cannot reap what you have not sown. For example you sow ideas, hard work and produce a product or service and men will exchange their treasures for the value you create. If you want the treasures of men without sowing the work required in creating a valuable product you end up becoming a thief or very disappointed and unhappy.
The question is what do you want most? You choices should be governed by what is most important to you. Getting the right priority sequence is critical if you are going to be successful. Some events are irreversible for example being part of your little girl’s childhood, if you prioritize an activity like work over that you will have lost something truly dear.
So you want a healthy, happy and successful life, you cannot eat anything and everything you want, it’s enjoyable to do that and highly pleasurable but you soon realize that no dream can be achieved if you are not healthy. Exercise self-control, control appetites for sex, lust, hunger, drugs. A little here and a little there and soon your life comes falling down like a pack of cards. We have seen charisma take people where their character cannot keep them.
So character formulation is painful, it will mean saying no to things now that you really want. The most important button on every equipment is the stop button because it prevents that equipment from destroying others and ultimately destroying itself. Anyone that has no restrain will not only destroy other people but will eventually destroy themselves.
What do you want now? Wealth, fame, power, success etc but, what you really want is to be happy while having all you ever wanted. That means saying no to certain activities and appetites you are dying for right now. The man who spends his entire youth watching television or others on the internet will never be watched by anyone. You cannot spectate and work at the same time. If you will be applauded in life you must have spent time developing and doing deeds worth applauding. There are no short cuts.
The most deplorable trait today is men hungry for pleasure without any willingness to surrender to the pain of discipline.
Jim Rohn said “Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.” George Washington said “Discipline is the soul of an army. It makes small numbers formidable; procures success to the weak, and esteem to all.” And it was Dalai Lama that said “A disciplined mind leads to happiness, and an undisciplined mind leads to suffering.”
Whichever road you choose there is pain and there is pleasure the only difference is in the sequence. Your greatest tragedy is when life requires of you something you longer have time to do. Let what you want most always come before what you want now.
Commit to a daily routine to grow your mind.
That’s G.Y.M for today and I trust that you are charged up and obsessed with a burning desire to succeed. Ordinary is a misnomer for you.
Plan, Act and Pursue your dream.
