The Upgrade

Focus on increased performance and every other thing around you is going to increase. You cannot perform at the level you were performing last year and expect to attract higher rewards. There is a direct correlation between your performance and your capacity. When you get a capacity upgrade like a software you either increase your performance capacity or improve it and sometimes upgrades are done to get rid of bugs. Bugs like inefficiency, sloppiness, lack of excellence and lack of creativity.

Stop waiting on your boss or people to point out that you need to improve, make it a point of duty to give a better version of you every day, every week, every month, and every year. Work tireless to deliver perfection, whether you are a school teacher, an engineer, an architect, a business man or woman, a marketing executive or even a house wife, decide to always grow in your delivery. Husbands upgrade, wives upgrade, bosses upgrade, employees upgrade. Think about it, you constantly demanding a better experience from your service providers, from the businesses you patronize, from the gadgets you use but are you constantly demanding a better experience from yourself. You should get better with time.

Everything living grows, so when was the last time you actually grew on your job? I do not mean you got a promotion, I mean you realize you are now delivering on a new level, and you could confirm that you have increased your performance. Are you growing spiritually, financially, emotionally, psychologically?

Are you better at problem solving this year than you were last year?

Are you better at negotiating this year than you were last year?

Are you better at managing your personal finance this year than you were last year?

Are you better at public speaking this year than you were last year?

You must identify the critical skills you require for your promotion in life and upgrade. For example a pastor is in the people business, he or she must grow in people management skills and must grow in anointing.

There is what I call the theory of everything, you must know a little of everything, it’s hard but try. Do not sit in a room and have people constantly talk over your head and your excuse is it’s not your field, no one said be an expert but do not be a dummy.

I have come across some interesting book titles like finance for non-finance managers or accounting for non-accountants or what to do when there is not doctor around. No excuses upgrade, your ignorance will cost you. The bible says my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.

Growth Goals

Do you have a set of skills you are working on growing? This could be people skills, management skills, finance skills, emotional intelligence, networking etc

If you have identified your growth areas, have you formulated a plan of action for growth? Have you identified the Seminars or training’s you want to attend? Books you want to read or activities you want to begin to engage in.

Do have defined methods or ways of monitoring your improvement in your chosen growth areas?

Study your work, be your own performance coach. Upgrade, be like wine get better with time.

Critic your work, examine it, measure it, review it and redefine it.

Reflect on your work, think about your work, think about what you are doing and how you are doing what you are doing.

Improved performance guarantees increased rewards and benefits.

Commit to a daily routine to grow your mind.
