The Second Mile

Practice increasing your accumulated advantage. The second mile is a road least traveled by most, what you want to do is get ahead of the pack. If you are doing just what everybody is doing you most likely are getting what everybody is getting. You want to even the odds and give yourself the advantage.

Brian Tracy said “I’ve found that luck is quite predictable. If you want more luck, take more chances. Be more active. Show up more often.” Most people are looking at doing just enough to get by, what you want to be doing is do much more than is required. Average should be your enemy always aim for the upper percentile. Constantly give 150%, 200%, change your preparation plan, your goal should never be 100%, prepare for 200%. Double your efforts so you increase your accomplishments.

Get to work earlier, stay later, stay up an hour longer, wake up an hour earlier, read more, when you’re asked for a page give two, always be seen to under promise and over deliver. At the second mile, the returns and rewards stop being arithmetic it starts to get exponential. There is something about nature that conceals anything of value, it’s almost like nature is constantly looking for those willing to stay longer, work harder, stretch further, press more intently to deliver the secrets of life to them.

Question – Are you a second mile person? or :

Are doing just enough on your Job?

Are you doing just enough in your marriage?

Are you doing just enough in your church?

Are you doing just enough in the pursuit of your goals?

Are you doing just enough to make it through life?

You cannot expect extraordinary results and prepare normally. Does this phrase sound familiar “quit stressing yourself it’s not a do or die affair?” People generally would like to chill, they have a problem with the guy who puts in the extra effort. I had this classmate while on campus who by the beginning of the semester had already finished his course work. He began the semester revising the course work for that semester. Little wonder he finished with a first class degree. He was a second mile student.

I read the story of two men who got a job to work at the railway corporation after a couple of years one had risen to Vice President of the corporation while the other was still a conductor. One day the VP met his friend after many years and the friend obviously felt the system wasn’t fair but the VP told him, you came to work for money I came to work for the corporation, so while you did just what you were paid to do, I did pretty much anything the corporation needed done, so I became better and got ahead.

On your dreams, goals and vision in life are doing just enough to earn some money or are you willing to do the extra even if there is no money. Practice second mile living and second mile thinking.

Let passion drive you. Life is not a 100 Meters dash it’s a marathon, you need speed as well as agility, you need strength and stability, and you have to be persistent, prepare to stay on your feet no matter what.

Read more, work more, pray more, exercise more, love more, spend more time with family, spend more time working on your dream, when everyone else has signed out for the day stay an hour longer and get up an hour earlier, get more training for your job become the more man, become the more woman, become a second mile person and life will reward you with goodness.

Commit to a daily routine to grow your mind.

That’s G.Y.M for today and I trust that you are charged up and obsessed with a burning desire to succeed. Ordinary is a misnomer for you.

Plan, Act and Pursue your dream.
