I will be the best, I will be the greatest, when I begin, my name will resonate throughout the entire world, the world will rise to applaud my gift as I dish it out like treats, I am better than most, in fact I am better than the best, poised to be the greatest, I am exemplary, I am legend, I was meant for this even before time began, all of this if only you can begin, if only you can get started.
Like the football enthusiast who has scored a thousand goals from the stands, you constantly judge other people’s performances echoing under your breathe that you are better but to what end, no one knows who you are, you can’t win the game if you are not in the game. You need to get started.
Remember your plans at the beginning of the year, well this is second quarter and you need to get started, stop kidding yourself saying the reason why you have not started is because you want it to be perfect, you are flat out scared and you need to deal with it. Have you heard that the bold make more progress than the knowledgeable and too much analysis leads to paralysis? You need to get started.
On December 14, 1903 after arriving Kitty Hawk the Wright brothers were finally ready to give their creation a try. Guess how long the first flight session lasted? 3 ½ seconds, yes you heard, that’s right and on December 17 they made another attempt after fixing up the damage from the first flight and this time the flight time was 12 seconds, short but it was a flight nonetheless. Today we have intercontinental flights, imagine if they waited until the airplane could make intercontinental flights before getting started?
In marketing strategy there is the First Mover advantage concept – this is the advantage gained by the initial (“first-moving”) significant occupant of a market segment. It is also called technological leadership. There is also a saying be first or be better. While tinkering with your idea for progress get out there and get your hands dirty. Quit talking start doing. Do you know how irritating it is when you keep company with people who talk and talk, and do not get to work?
Let’s talk SMART Goals
Cut out the ambiguity and cut to the chase. Are your goals smart?
Are they specific, significant, stretching?
Are they measurable, meaningful, and motivational?
Are they agreed upon, attainable, achievable, acceptable, and action-oriented?
Are they realistic, relevant, reasonable, rewarding, and results-oriented?
Are they time-based, time-bound, timely, tangible, and trackable?
It was Elbert Hubbard that’s said “Many people fail in life, not for lack of ability or brains or even courage, but simply because they have never organized their energies around a goal”.
And Mark Twain said “The secret of getting ahead is getting started”.
You have talked about it long enough, get ahead by getting started.
Finally in the words of Marilu Henner “However, don’t let perfectionism become an excuse for never getting started”.
Today is the day, today is your day, this moment, at this very hour you are writing your name in the sands of time because you are committing to doing something about your dream.
Commit to a daily routine to grow your mind.
That’s G.Y.M for today and I trust that you are charged up and obsessed with a burning desire to succeed. Ordinary is a misnomer for you.
Plan, Act and Pursue your dream.
