Are you a part-time participant in your full time dream? Are you sitting on the sidelines hoping for someone else to play the lead role in this feature film called your life? Are you permanently engaged in pursuing your life’s vision? It is amazing how some of us have taken passerby roles in the movie of our life. It was John Maxwell that said “Life begins at the end of our comfort zone. We go there by stretching”.
Are you using only a small fraction of your ability? Could it be that you are barely striving to reach your full potential? I came across a US statistic that said a third of high school graduates never read a book for the rest of their lives, and 42 percent of college graduates similarly never read a book after college. And David Godine claims that only 32 percent of the U.S population has ever been in a bookstore. There is clearly a divide between where you are and where you could be, the question however is what are you doing about it?
Abraham Maslow said “if you plan on being anything less than you are capable of being, you will probably be unhappy all the days of your life”. Have you settled for the status quo? You were told to relax, take life easy, don’t stress yourself they said, they said you take things too seriously. These crab thinking people, looking for company in their little cribs in their town called average. They offer you free mortgage, they want you guys to sit outside your cottages talking about everyone else engaging with their plans and dreams and doing something with their lives.
It is time for you to engage, engage on a physical, mental, social, intellectual and spiritual level. Let you dream and vision consume you completely. It was the Apostle Paul that said throw yourself completely into your tasks so that everyone will see your progress. It’s always amazed me what the laser beam is capable of doing, the same light intensity dispersed cannot accomplish much, but focused the laser beam bores through even the hardest substance on earth.
Your lack of engagement is your obstacle, your lackluster attitude is defeating the real you. Make up your mind to engage, James Allen said “you cannot travel within and stand still without”. Your indecision, double mindedness, you second guessing your every move is cutting you down badly. What do you want? Engage with every fiber of your being.
Someone in speaking of his successes said “it’s not a surprise we are where we are as an organization, it would have been a surprise if we weren’t here”, this is coming from a man who had decided to engage his future so he burnt the bridge to his past. Make going forward your only option. This attitude of yours where you have options for failure, you say to yourself if I fail I could always go back to mummy or I was only playing I knew it won’t work out. I know you’re trying to be morally correct and humble but your average performance is irritating to say the list. Trust me your brothers and sisters will rather have an A-list celebrity for family that this consolation price of a dream that you have.
It is George Elliot that said “it’s never too late to be what you might have been”. Are you tired of your stories of how you could have, would have or should have? Every successful person on television is your classmate so I ask what happened to you. These people weren’t more talented, they weren’t the only ones that had the opportunity, they were not the only ones with good fortunes but they were the only ones to engage their future, contend for their dreams and make their lives worthwhile.
James Terry white observed “Nature has everywhere written her protest against idleness, everything which ceases to struggle which remains inactive, rapidly deteriorates. It is the struggle toward an ideal, the constant effort to get higher and further, which develops manhood and character”.
