The Obstacle Beat Down

What is the biggest obstacle to a fulfilled life? What is your biggest challenge? What is your deepest fear? What do you think about that cripples your belief? What do you think about that dislodges your faith? What do you think about that shatters your hope?

There are a tsunami of dream thieves hanging around ensuring your lack of productivity. These monsters as I like to call them show up in our lives sometimes as the loss of a job, poverty, sickness, recession, impeded progress, family crisis, heart breaks and the works. Their ultimate aim is your defeat, but that devil is a liar.

You need to embark on an obstacle beat down, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. You need to alter your interpretation and representation of the challenges in your life. Quit being a wimp, how dare you chicken out on your dream, you are bigger than this, you were meant for more.

This is your time, this is your life, these are your dreams and they are worth fighting for. Imagine getting in a ring with the obstacles you’re currently face, are you angry enough with your current condition that you are desperate for a change. How bad do you want it?

Quit getting angry at people, get angry at the situation. We are driven by pain or gain. I heard the story once of a dog that sat on a nail, then began mourning and groaning and a passerby asked the dog owner why is your dog mourning and groaning and the dog owner said because its seating on a nail and the passerby asked then why won’t it get up and the owners response was classic, he said it’s not hurting enough to get up.

Are you seating with your pain, nursing it, tending to it, pampering it or are you angry enough to force a change.

What is your greatest motivation?

How much do you detest failing?

Are you tired of being at the bottom of the food chain?

Does your skin crawl by your inability to provide for your own?

Are you saddened by the fact that you have to look at the price tag before making your decision to purchase a meal or a gift for your spouse?

Decide to permanently alter your state, the fight is not over until you win.

The challenges we currently face demands we rethink our strategy, we have to rethink what our advantage is, the conventions of life and what others consider an advantage might not be our advantage.

In a boxing match the boxer’s tactic is aimed at making sure he out-punches and therefore outscores his opponent. No boxer can realistically expect to win a fight just by deflecting an opponent’s punches – hence no one can realistically expect to win the battles of life simply by deflecting or soaking in the pressures life throws at us. We have to land some jabs at the problems in our lives, set up a few hooks, and land some straight punches and then an uppercut.

But then can you make up your mind to outwork every obstacle, challenge and problem in your life. Be determined to stay on your feet no matter what life throws at you and if you down for the count, get up. Get up and fight.

If your victory over the battles of life is to be guaranteed you must understand the following –

• You must know your SHAPE – that is your spiritual gifts, heart, abilities, personality and experience. You must know yourself. Aristotle said “I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies, for the hardest victory is over self”. We all must defeat ourselves, for if we conquer the enemy within the enemy without can do us no harm.

• You must know your enemy – we all do not have the same challenges and even when they are the same our interpretations either empowers or dis-empowers our foes.

• You must know your tools – what is your strategy? What are you good at? Do not go with Saul’s armor to fight Goliath, David!

Ask yourself what’s the worse that could happen, if all you have been doing has not changed the outcome of your situation maybe you need a new approach.

Are you a fighter, do you have the tenacity to see your dream through, be possessed with the dream. Focus they say creates blindness. This is your season to beat down every obstacle standing between you and your preferred life.

Commit to a daily routine to grow your mind.

That’s G.Y.M for today and I trust that you are charged up and obsessed with a burning desire to succeed. Ordinary is a misnomer for you.

Plan, Act and Pursue your dream.
